Sweet! is a peer to peer fundraising app that is 100% customizable. Over the years, we’ve learned so much from our clients because we are responsive to their needs and ideas. In fact, many innovations in peer to peer fundraising have come directly from our nonprofit clients.
Why is web accessibility important for your fundraising software?
Web accessibility means that websites, tools, and technologies are designed and developed so that people with disabilities can use them. More specifically, people can: perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web (https://www.w3.org/WAI/fundamentals/accessibility-intro/).
Some of the key areas that need to be addressed include:
- Alt text on all images
- Text resizing
- Audio in addition to text
- Captions on videos
- Augmenting color with other ways to convey information
- Keyboard navigation
- Low or no background audio
There are many more things that need to be addressed so that those with diverse disabilities are able to participate equally on the Web, and especially with our fundraising software.
There are many great tools to test for web accessibility. We liked web accessibility evaluation tool (WAVE https://wave.webaim.org/). Using WAVE we reconfigured static pages and forms to meet web accessibility standards in our fundraising software, Sweet!
Now we can take what we have learned and apply it to future apps to create web accessible peer to peer fundraising sites for everyone.
Our work with ACB shows once again that innovation in peer to peer fundraising comes from nonprofit organizations. For more information on web accessibility, please visit W3.org. Want more information on how our fundraising app can meet your web accessibility needs, contact us for a demo.
